Last Minute Info!

I'm headed to Civic Center park in Denver presently. I'll have a green felt hat if I remember to keep it on...

If you have access to a phone, or to a friendly stranger with a phone, my number is 1 760 822 9880.

If you're arriving after 6pm, remember to head straight to the SAME cafe at 2023 East Colfax. Dinner is pay-as-you-want, or you can volunteer some time. Food starts at 7pm. (from Civic Center Park, go 1.5 miles straight east, in the direction of the big City Hall building, along Colfax, which sits between 14th and 16th.)

The final countdown!

The first annual North American hitchhiking gathering draws near!

hitchhiking rocks!

Make your preparations and get on the road! If you're green to hitching, or haven't quite cast off the chains of schedules yet, cheat like me and take a train there (or a plane, I guess). You can meet up with other hitchhikers and learn what it's all about. If you're an old hand at this, come teach us kids what's what! Whatever the case, cast off your cares and come enjoy Boulder (and Denver if you arrive a day early). See you there!

Dallas, Tx -Meet-Up (Plano more specifically)

America/Porto Acre

What the hell, I figured, so I'm hosting a Dallas, Tx meet-up if anyone's interested.
-It'll be on Wednesday, August 18th.
-Hosted at my girlfriend's apartment in Plano, Tx (North Dallas).

I'm planning on having my girlfriend drop me off on 287 (heading N to Amarillo) sometime around sun-up the next day (the 19th)
-Anyone is welcome to spend the night and come hitching with me. I think I can make it to Denver in one day using this route and some proper technique. :)

Let me know if you want/need a pick-up to come to the meet-up.

p.s. - We have two small dogs. They don't bite -one barely ever barks, the other will bark at first -and occasionally they shit on the floor. ;P

Where - Boulder, Colorado

The North American Hitch Gathering is taking place in Boulder, Colorado this year on August 21st. We will meet up at the Bandshell at Canyon Boulevard and North Broadway, right next to the Farmer's Market (8am-2pm) (just a few blocks from the bus station, in case you opted for public transport from Denver). If it rains really hard, mosey a couple blocks downstream along the Boulder Creek Path until you're under the library skywalk - we'll be hunkered down there. That afternoon, we'll all hitch out of town to a nice place in Nature where we can gather together, camp and live for a few days, a place where we can be free and well, a place where Rainbow Gatherings have happened in the past. Location is forthcoming today!

There will also be a preliminary meeting in Denver on the 20th of August. We'll meet up in Civic Center Park, the crossroads of Denver. Hopefully the benches on the upper level, near the stairs down, will be dry, but if the weather is too rainy, we'll be under the amphitheater on the lower level. This pre-day gathering is for those that arrive early, those that are interested in meeting hitchhikers and travelers in an accessible location in Denver, and for anyone interested.
Around 11 or noon, at least some of us will make the 1.5 mile trek (will anyone pick up a hitchhiker in the city? It's worth a try!) east along Colfax (aka 15th Ave.) to #2023, the SAME cafe, a pay-what-you-want, volunteers-welcome eatery. We'll return to SAME for dinner, around 6 or 7pm, which will provide a nice place to meet up with friends, hosts, CouchSurfers and other HospEx folks, and have an affordable dinner. Suggestions welcome for after-plans. The next day we will gather somewhere (see forum if you know of a good way to hitch from Denver to Boudler) and all Hitch together to Boulder (20 kilometers away). We're envisioning a great group of people all leaving together, maybe with media involved, and off to Boulder we go!

What

A Hitch Gathering is a non-commercial, volunteer based, self-organized project that supports the promotion of Hitchhiking. The idea is simple: Once a year a place is chosen and everyone (hitchhikers or non-hitchhikers) gather together to celebrate, to share, to learn and to discover! It's a time to get together and be happy, to help one another, to talk and meet, and to develop our ideas and then pursue them further.

The North America Hitch Gathering is a proposed project/gathering set to take place August 21st, 2010 in Boulder, Colorado, with a pre-emptive gathering in Denver, CO on August 20th. There will be peripheral meeting-ups in pre-determined spots in cities 'on the road' to Denver in preceding days, i.e. Salt Lake City UT, Albuquerque NM, Kansas City KS, Cheyenne WY on the 19th and farther-out cities on the 18th and 17th respectively(exact cities and location yet to be determined). This is to help aid participants meeting up with others and build camaraderie for the actual event.
